Winona Ryder, professionally Winona Ryder was born on Winona Minnesota. The parents named her Winona for her hometown. Both her father Michel Horowitz, and mother Cynthia Palmer are authors and editors. Ryder's father was born into an ethnically Jewish family. Ryder considers her self Jewish. The actress also has a half-sister, Sunyata Jubal. Ryder's younger sister is Uria. Ryder's parents relocated her and their children to Mendocino County California when Ryder was seven years old. The family was in a house that didn't have electricity. Ryder was a consummate reader and spent her time reading books as there was no television. Ryder aged 12 was enrolled in the American Conservatory Theatre for acting classes in 1983. Lucas, a 1986 film that she was in, was her debut major role. Ryder was 15 when she got it. Ryder was bullied throughout high school. Her acting career, she hoped that it would aid her. Unfortunately, that wasn't the case. She continued to pursue her dreams. In 1988, she received her big break in Tim Burton's Beetlejuice. Ryder continued playing roles that were successful in various films. She was nominated for two Academy Awards one for her performance as a character in The Age of Innocence (1993).
